Artist Statement:
I take inspiration from wabi-sabi, a Japanese philosophy; my grandmother, a master of tea ceremonies at a traditional Japanese tea house; and my former teacher, a world-renowned floral designer. I use traditional methods to create my work, as well as resurrecting broken pottery through mending. Going through the process makes me feel more connected to what I create: collecting my own clay from local sources, burning natural resources to make ash for all of my glazes, using my legs to turn the wheel to form pieces, and physically stoking wood into a kiln for long hours.
