Laura Summer

Artist Statement:

Laura Summer lives and works in Washington, DC, where she designs and makes jewelry from polymer clay and sterling silver or brass wire. The clay not only affords unlimited color possibilities, but is also a forgiving medium, which can be fashioned and refashioned until a piece looks just right. She delights in crafting a collection of vibrant, fanciful jewelry, pieces that are bold but lightweight, durable, and easy to wear.

Using polymer clay and techniques that she has refined for jewelry making, such as color blending, layering, caning, sculpting, texture, and veneers, she also constructs little decorative boxes, dubbed “treasure boxes” by some, that have proved to be quite popular.
